Instruction at Payam Alinasab Design is led exclusively by our founder, Payam Alinasab—an experienced fine furniture maker who brings these skills to life every day through a thoughtfully built collection— giving you a rare opportunity to learn directly from someone who practices at a high professional level. Our private woodworking workshop offers a refined one-on-one learning experience tailored to every skill level, from introductory sessions to advanced training.

Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or more advanced woodworker, these classes are designed to help you build confidence, refine skills, and ultimately create something extraordinary. Each class provides focused guidance, hands-on practice, and an intentional approach to tools, joinery, and a wide range of woodworking techniques.

In select classes, participants also have the opportunity to create a finished piece; please refer to each class description for specific project details.

Classes

Introduction to woodworking


2 sessions | 6 hours total | 3 hours per session

Skill Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Materials and tools: All provided

Pre-Requisite: 18 years or older

Class Overview: This beginner-friendly, hands-on class is designed for those new to woodworking. You’ll learn essential shop safety, get comfortable with both hand and basic power tools, and complete a charcuterie board you’ll take home—introducing measuring, cutting, glue-ups, and finishing so you can start building with confidence.

What you'll learn in this private session:

  • Workshop safety and best practices

  • Wood species and material selection

  • Measuring, marking, and layout techniques

  • Introduction to essential hand and power tools

  • Milling, cutting, and joinery fundamentals

  • Sanding and finishing techniques

  • Tips for planning and executing future woodworking projects

Intermediate Woodworking – Building Skills and Confidence


2 sessions | 8 hours total | 4 hours per session

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advance

Materials and tools: All provided

Pre-Requisite: 18 years or older

Class Overview: This class is designed for woodworkers who already have basic experience with tools and shop safety and want to deepen their skills. Through designing and building a side table, you’ll refine measuring and layout, practice cleaner, stronger joinery, and explore more advanced surface preparation and finishing so you can tackle more ambitious projects with greater precision and control.

What you'll learn in this private session:

  • How to design and plan a furniture piece from concept to completion

  • More accurate measuring, layout, and marking techniques for cleaner results

  • Stronger joinery methods to improve durability and overall build quality

  • Advanced surface prep, sanding, and finishing techniques for a professional look

  • Better workflow, tool usage, and project planning to tackle more complex builds confidently

Dovetail Workshop


Half-day private class | 5 hours

Skill Level: All levels welcome

Materials and tools: All provided

Pre-Requisite: 18 years or older

Class Overview: A half-day class devoted to hand-cut dovetails, one of woodworking’s strongest and most elegant joints. You’ll learn the fundamentals of through dovetail joinery and the skills needed to start cutting clean, accurate dovetails.

What you'll learn in this private session:

  • Receive a short background on the joint, its purpose and common uses, along with a look at the different design variations

  • Explore a range of specialized tools for laying out, and cutting

  • Learn workholding and body mechanics for workshop efficiency and safety

  • Have a guided hands on experience of cutting, fitting, and fine-tuning of dovetails—glue-optional
